Pharming
What is Pharming?
Criminals may create very authentic looking copies of the sign-in portal to
Online Banking, and attempt to encourage you to input your user name and
password. With that information, they now have access to your bank
account.
At Old Point, we have instituted third party authentication, or the “ICON” to
protect you against pharming attacks. By now you have established a personal
image and a phrase that you must input before you can access the Online Banking
system.
Protect Yourself Against Pharming
Whenever you visit Old Point’s Online Banking site, verify that your personal
image and phrase are displayed before you input your password. If there is no
image or phrase, DO NOT input any more information. If you are accessing Online
Banking from another computer than one you usually use, you will be asked for
your challenge question before you proceed. Once you have successfully answered
your question, your image and phrase should appear.
